Fernando Henrique Cardoso, President of Brazil from 1995 to 2003 and a renowned sociologist, will visit The University of Texas Sept. 13-14. Prof. Kurt Weyland of UT's Department of Government says, "The Cardoso presidency was a watershed in Brazil's contemporary history. By bringing runaway inflation under control and by forging a wide-ranging political coalition, this skillful leader guaranteed the stability of an up-to-then fragile democracy. His comprehensive market reforms and innovative social programs put the South American giant back on a path toward socioeconomic development."
The President will speak at two public events during this visit to the university.
